Creation and Story
Written, recorded and produced herself in her bedroom, Hannah Ruby hopes to share a relatable experience – one of overcoming self-doubt, through the lens of hope.
“I want to share my message with the world to never give up on the things you love even when times get challenging, to remind them they are good enough, their dreams matter and to be their own number one fan.” – Hannah Ruby
Following her independent releases, of songs ‘Pretty Lies’, ‘War’ and first EP ‘Wild.’ Hannah is excited to share this new release which showcases her emerging skills as a songwriter and producer, each new release building upon the last to be bigger, better and bolder.
The upcoming music video, going live on release day, is also a success story of fantastic community collaboration. Being involved in the ‘inExeter’ video series about International Women’s Day, led to a collaboration on the music video and photography for the single, between Hannah Ruby and two women owned local businesses – moments to media and frocks in swing time who provided the photography/video and outfits respectively. The video also made use of beautiful local space, and was filmed on Exeter Quay. The brilliance of community spirit continues, with an Exeter based music organization ‘MIDI’ and their project ‘MIDI TV’ premiering the music video on release day 25th June. This collaboration hopes to show people the importance of community and working together. To saying yes to opportunities as you never know what may come of it.
“Every time I’ve said yes to a music opportunity, something amazing comes from it, it opens another door or window even if I can’t see it at the time.” – Hannah Ruby
Hannah Ruby is a red-lipstick loving musician from Exeter, whose influences cover The Beatles, David Bowie, Queen and recent singer/songwriters such as Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift. Her message and brand is one of being true to yourself, hope, believing in yourself and never giving up on things you love even when things get challenging. A message needed now more than ever as we all navigate this covid-19 time. Through her songs and messages she shares relatable experiences such as – overcoming self-doubt, lack of confidence, pains of growing up and fitting in, mental health and anxiety but with an over-arching message of hope and seeing the positive times yet to come.
Hannah’s voice has been described as having a ‘unique quality’ and ‘soulful.’ Whilst not fitting into conventional genres, her style leans towards pop, singer-songwriter and indie. She has been a finalist in many local talent shows, the regional finals of Open Mic as well as being invited on to several shows of Exeter based Phonic FM radio. Her song ‘Hunted’ from her first debut EP ‘Wild’ was played on BBC Introducing in the South West.
